Lincoln & Bradley Avenue Gas Station

Lincoln & Bradley Avenue Gas Station

S&A provided a complete package of civil engineering services for this new gas station development. Our surveying services included a legal survey of the property followed by a topographic survey for use in their site design. We designed the parking areas, as well as the entrances onto the adjacent roadways. Storm drainage design was provided including on-site storm water detention in accordance with the City of Urbana requirements. In addition to on-site development needs, this project required an off-site sanitary sewer connection by means of an off-site sanitary sewer extension.

  • A traffic study was performed for the development of this new grocery store and 14 retail stores. The site is bordered by three major thoroughfares. Plans were designed that included site layout design, parking lot design, roadways, earthwork, site piping plans and profiles, and utility services. The project also included drainage (detention basin), lighting and marking and obtaining permits from IDOT and the City of Champaign for a new entrance, sidewalks, drainage ditches, and signs. In addition, S&A provided construction observation for the owner
  • Sodemann and Associates, Inc. provided comprehensive long-range planning and detailed design for the development of the 190-acre industrial park located west of Rantoul along Interstate 57. Design services included: Topographic and legal surveys of the entire park, Planning of utilities and street system for development of the park, Design and inspection of all major road and drainage improvements for the park including retention basins for increased run-off due to development., Wastewater utility design including pump station provisions, plus potable water supply, and Construction inspection of all improvements to the park’s infrastructure.
  • S&A was directed to evaluate the 30-year-old Civic Center and Pool. In addition to the pool, the Civic Center houses weight rooms, an indoor basketball court, and handball court. S&A helped determine (1) if the building was salvageable; (2) the cost of renovation; and (3) renovation costs compared with alternatives, e.g. the cost to start over with a new indoor pool, and the cost to build an outdoor pool. The Council determined that the existing Civic Center should be renovated and a project scope was defined by the Council and S&A staff.
S&A selected the project team, assigned project tasks and coordinated the sub-consultants’ work. While Frauenhoffer and Associates prepared the structural design drawings, S&A participated in material selection and the wall covering design, as well as helped with insulation and interior finish of the building. Next came HVAC and electrical design of a new lighting system prepared by Sebesta Blomberg and Associates, and Burtness Engineering Services respectively. The HVAC system was designed for high humidity and conditioning of the air in the pool area, as well as for air-conditioning in the weight room, indoor basketball and handball courts. S&A designed a building addition to house the new electrical equipment. S&A designed the pool filtration equipment and administered all pool renovation tasks including sand blasting and painting the pool (the shell sidewalls remain intact), new piping, and new filtration. S&A evaluated and designed a piping and filtration system that is more corrosion resistant than a system used in a typical water plant. In addition, the pool was brought up to code with the Department of Public Health. S&A provided the bidding phase services and also performed shop drawing reviews. After the contract was awarded, S&A provided construction inspection in conjunction with City staff on a part-time and critical-task basis, such as the concrete pour for the new filtration equipment.
  • S&A provided the surveying, plans and specifications for construction of an all-weather track at Gibson City High School. The project included installation of a rubberized surface and associated striping. S&A provided construction observation on a part-time, as needed basis. In addition, S&A also assisted with finding funding for the project.
  • S&A provided the project engineering and construction supervision for redeveloping the courtyard and the multiple building entrances. In addition to the site redevelopment, an upgrade in the lighting patterns and illumination was provided. A new control system was implemented to service and operate the additional courtyard lighting. The improved level of illumination enhanced safety and usefulness of this aesthetic area of campus.
